Dennis Duffy is the eccentric and mostly terrible, sometimes boyfriend to Liz Lemon. He is played by Dean Winters. He was a beeper salesman and Liz' on and off boyfriend, much to the disappointment of her co-workers.
History[]
Liz had dated him most recently in season 1 ("Jack Meets Dennis," "Tracy Does Conan" and The Break-Up). She knows he takes adavantage of their relationship by staying at her place and using her money but she eventually gives in to him always because of their love for food and his unique way of showing care for her by bringing her food. While thinking about their relationship, Liz makes a pros and cons list which was ultimately tipped to the negative after she found out he had tried to have sex with a minor. The few good memories she has of him are mostly food-related, but she admits he makes her laugh. His nickname for her is "Dummy."
In spite of Liz's rejection, he returns in season 2 as the Subway Hero and the two reconnect briefly but before committing to a relationship, Liz comes back to her senses. He seemed to have impregnated Liz in "Cooter." He has had guest appearances in subsequent seasons. He was also instrumental in making Liz realise and confess her love for Criss Chros in the episode "St. Patrick's Day". In the same episode, it is revealed that Dennis married an obnoxious Irish-American woman named Megan.
In the episode "Mazel Tov, Dummies!", Liz finds out that Dennis and Megan have adopted an African-American baby boy whom they call "Black Dennis". This enrages Liz and she decided to get married to Criss in order to become more qualified for adoption. They decide to have a low-key wedding and Criss ends up inviting Dennis, Megan and Black Dennis to the court house to become witnesses. This disturbs Liz and she realises that she wants a bigger wedding. Criss later reveals that inviting Dennis was a part of his plan to make Liz realise that it's okay to want their wedding day to be special. Dennis is present at their wedding ceremony.
Personality[]
Dennis is immature for a man his age, often exclaiming like a teenage boy. In one episode he sits on Liz's bed, playing Halo 3; then, he throws the controller down and yells that the controller is "defective" because "that grenade was right next to him!" He was the last remaining beeper salesman in New York City, and was known as the "Beeper King" (after the original Beeper King committed suicide). He concocts a number of money-making schemes, including a make-your-own coffee station, copying DVD movies onto LaserDisc, and devising a Balloon Boy-like stunt after being assigned to a program that pairs talented kids with troubled adults. In his final appearance, he brags that he has found success selling "suicide insurance".
